Disney World Line Cutting Policy

Disney World’s line-cutting policy is a hot topic for many visitors to the park. Some park-goers think it should be disallowed, while others argue that it is necessary to keep the lines moving.

Regardless of what you think about Disney World’s cut-in policy, there are some essential things you need to know before visiting as a family with small children.

01. What Is the Line Cutting Policy at Disney World?

Disney World has a stringent policy against line-cutting. A park-goer who cuts in line without permission may be escorted out and not be permitted to return. If you want to cut the line legitimately, you must have either a Disney All-Access pass or the Disney Genie Plus Paid app, which allows you to skip the queue and enter the lightning lane.

02. Line Wait Times

Disney World’s wait times vary depending on the time of year and day. Generally, you can expect to wait between 30 minutes and 2 hours to ride the popular attractions. Waiting in long lines in the sun for long periods of time can make you extremely hot. Check out my article on how to stay cool at Disney World to ensure you don’t get too much sun while standing in line.

03. Cutting the Line Passes Discontinued

Park-goers in Disney World could previously cut the line with the help of a FastPass, FastPass+, or a MaxPass. However, these passes have been discontinued and replaced with paid options to cut the line in the Disney Genie app and the My Disney Experience app.

04. Ways to Cut the Line

There are three options for cutting the line legitimately in Disney World if you cannot queue or don’t want to wait so long in line.

Those three options are:

Disability Access Service – Das Pass Holders

Park-goers with disabilities that have applied for and received a DAS Pass can cut the line in Disney World. A DAS Pass does not allow a park-goer to skip to the front of the line. You have to wait the same amount of time as other park goers. You don’t have to wait in the actual line while queuing for a ride.

Disney Genie App

The free Disney Genie app does not allow you to cut the line, but it does help park-goers streamline their visits and cut down the wait times in lines in Disney World.

Disney Genie Plus. The Paid Version of the Genie App

The paid version of the Disney Genie app allows park-goers to access the “lightning lane” for $15 at Disney World. Disney Genie Plus replaces Disney FastPass. However, you have to pay to cut the line as the Disney FastPass has been discontinued.

Final Thoughts:

Remember, the earlier you arrive at Disney World, the shorter the lines. If you’ve visited Disney World before and have availed of FastPass, FastPass+, or a MaxPass to help you cut the line and reduce your wait times, you should download the new Disney Genie Plus app instead. Then, sign up and pay the additional fee so you won’t get disappointed.

Paying to skip the line seems unfair, especially to park-goers who are still spending lots of money in the park but might have a limited budget or lots of kids or people in their group and cannot afford the extra $15 per ticket. But the brand-new cut-the-line policy says you have to pay to play! It sucks, but that is the new rule.
